MT SHORTS, the brain child of Sarah Ellis and Greg Kamp, is a creative platform where musical theatre and short film meet, forging a new medium of storytelling. With a mission to bring the voices of an emerging generation of creatives to screen, we fuse together original mini musicals with fully realized video production to create MT SHORTS.
At it's core, MT SHORTS, seeks to provide a platform for new composers to hone their craft and explore, giving them experience writing for a new medium of storytelling and the luxury of a digital platform with an unlimited amount of viewership. We bring fresh creatives to a table that is otherwise set for a select few, giving them tools to create, collaborate and connect with the film community maintaining musical theatre's legacy and, at the same time, pushing the form forward.
There is a resurgence in enthusiasm for musical theatre on screens large and small, in older nostalgics and the younger generation alike. Adding in the ever-increasing demand for short form content, MT SHORTS is able to cast a wide net of viewership, making this quintessential art form more accessible and easy to digest. MT SHORTS provides the opportunity for those who can't make it to Broadway theatre a chance to see what up-and-coming creatives are developing, all in the palm of their hand.
It starts with a writer or team of writers and a nugget of an idea. MT Shorts helps shape the idea into a fully realized mini musical concept. Songs are composed, a script hatched.
MT SHORTS gathers the teams on and offscreen, curating every collaboration to the timbre of the story and aesthetic of the creatives, fostering new communities, as musical theatre and film merge.
Using Youtube and social media as platforms for distribution, MT Shorts releases an all-original musical short film with eyes on festival submissions. Each release is accompanied by a concert component featuring the composers where the film is premiered.
